So if we move to IVF we will be deduction our fertility expenses. I've heard mixed responses about deducting sperm. We spent nearly $4,000 in January. If we can deduct that, that would be great!
Do any of you know if you can deduct the cost of frozen sperm, if it's required to get pregnant?

we claimed our sperm costs as part of our medical bills for 2008 (and our accountant okay'ed it). you can count storage fees too - that part IS specifically in the IRS regs.
We claimed ours too and it was fine with our accountant too.

Yep, my accountant okayed all my medical bills (IVFs) and sperm costs. You only actually get a percentage anyway. But worth the effort in my mind.
I claimed medical expenses this year and my accountant, as well, said this was okay. I was able to itemize $9000 in medical expenses for 2008 and anything over the standard percent of my income was claimed. (the majority of this being sperm!) Why is that freakin stuff more valuable than gold?!?!?! Just save your receipts from the bank and turn them in next year.
We claimed our sperm costs and my partner's an accountant (and a conservative one at that)!
We claimed our sperm too! Last year and this year. We even claimed the mileage to and from the doc's office for those appointments (it's 30 miles away).
we claimed our sperm costs, too, on this year's taxes - our tax person said it was valid. we also claimed the tests that weren't covered for us (HSG for example.) before we switched to our known local donor, the sperm bank also told us that some lesbian couples had had luck writing a letter to their insurance companies to cover their sperm as it was a necessary part of their reproduction because as a couple, they were, in effect, infertile! but, it didn't work for us. so, we were at least happy to write off nearly $10K in sperm at the very least! deduct that liquid gold!!!
I claimed sperm. I figure if they audit me and decide it isn't allowed, then the worst they can do is fine me a little bit and make me Treasury Secretary!
